![]() ![]() We carry the right coolant for nearly any vehicle, and also offer helpful How-To topics on cooling system maintenance, how to flush and refill your car's coolant, and much more to get the job done right. When you need coolant, or if you need radiator hoses, clamps, or the right tools for the job, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts. If your coolant levels are low or if your cooling system isn't working as it should, you may notice your temperature gauge reading higher than usual, your heater may stop working, or you might notice steam coming from under your hood. It's a good idea to fix a cooling system leak as soon as possible to avoid damage to your engine that can include overheating, seizing, warped cylinder heads, or a blown head gasket. If you notice a coolant leak, you should inspect your cooling system's components for signs of wear, cracks, damage, and attempt to locate the source of the leaks. ![]() Coolant manufacturers don’t add color to their antifreeze just to make it look pretty though. In 2004, Toyota transitioned from red Long-Life Coolant (LLC) to the improved pink Super Long-Life Coolant (SLLC). All the green, orange, red, pink, amber, and blue coolants you see on the shelves are dyed. Your vehicle's owner's manual usually includes service intervals that indicate how often to flush and fill your car's coolant, and coolant levels and condition should be inspected at least at every oil change and before winter to ensure safe engine performance. A study in Toyota’s pink coolant and some of the cooling system components that utilize this coolant including electric coolant pumps, EGR coolers and heat exchangers. ![]() Regularly checking and filling fluids is part of routine car maintenance, and not only does this help your vehicle perform better, but it also protects the engine from damage and corrosion. Antifreeze also helps prevent concentrations of water from causing corrosion and scale buildup inside the engine and keep your cooling system from freezing, which could cause extensive damage. Using the upper and lower radiator hoses, coolant is circulated throughout your car's engine and to the radiator where the hot coolant's temperature is reduced before it is returned to the engine. Your engine coolant, also called antifreeze, helps your vehicle maintain an appropriate operating temperature by absorbing heat from your engine. Maintain A Healthy Cooling System With Quality Antifreeze Draining out the pink coolant in favor of the green is like disabling the VVT system on the car, because engines never USED to have that fancy VVT stuff, and it's just got to be a scam.ASTM D3306, ASTM D4985, ASTM 6210, Federal Specification A-A-870A, SAE J1034, J814, J1941ĪSTM D3306, ASTM D4985, Ford WSS-M97B55-A, Federal Specification A-A-870A, SAE J1034, SAE J814, SAEĪSTM D3306, SAE J1034, SAE J814, SAE J1941, TMC OF ATA RP-3028, Federal Specification A-A-870Aĭ3306, D4985, Detroit Diesel DFS93K217ELC, VW TL-774D, Yanmar/Scania, MTU, Mercedes Truckĭ3306, D4985, Mercedes, BMW, Saab 690 1599, Tesla, Rolls Royce, Mercedes 325.0, MTU, Jaguarĭ3306, D4985, Mercedes, DDC, VW TL-774G, VW TL-774J, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes 325.5, Cummins 14603, Mĭ3306, D6210, Cummins 14603, Chrysler MS 9769, Ford WSS-M 97B51-A1, JCB STD00088, John Deere JDM H24ĭ3306, Ford WSS-M97B44-D/D2, Ford WSS-M97B57-A1/A2, GM9986100, GM6277M, GMW3420 What used to be used has lost favor for very real reasons. The OE comes up with a modern fluid (whatever it is, lubricant, coolant, etc) and unfamiliarity and ignorance rules over research and development and the newer stuff gets drained in favor of what used to be used. Silicates will adhere and bond to the cooling system components, which is why if you switch from a silicate-free coolant to a silicated coolant (like the conventional green stuff), you've negated the purpose of the newer coolant and will need to keep changing coolant every few years, which is really a waste of time and materials.īackyard mechanics think they're out-smarting the OE all the time. That's why we don't use silicated coolants in modern engines anymore. ![]() Silicates can be harmful to certain seals, like water pump seals. Yeah, and it CAN hurt to change out the silicate-free coolant. ![]()
